The Latest from Our Farm |
![]() It’s officially summer, and it’s HOT! Here’s the latest that’s keeping us cool on the farm. HerdshareGinger’s milk is now in the fridge with Liberty’s! Hers is just as delicious and heavy on the cream like a good Jersey’s should be. We’ve been reaching out to our waitlist for joining the herdshare. If you are on the waitlist and have yet to receive a request to join, please message us on Facebook! New LifeWith Ginger calving, we welcome Georgie Snap, the Jersey bull! Georgie is already in-your-pocket and full of spunk. We keep praying for an A2/A2 heifer, but God has given us plenty of beef. We’ll take it with gratitude! FarmstandSo far, we’ve put up our sign at the end of our driveway. And that’s it… It’s been mighty busy between the regular full-time job and maintaining the farm, but we are still holding on to a summer date for our farm stand! Growing NowWe just did our biggest garlic harvest of over 140 heads of garlic! The house has had a strong smell of, you guessed it, garlic, for days as we get it prepped for curing and freeze-drying. The rest of the garden is doing well as radishes trickle in slowly and herbs are sprouting up here and there.
From the Blog![]() It was a light month for the blog with our only post being our National Dairy Month article, which covered 10 facts about dairy, including the amazing nutrition of milk as well as an egg-laying milk-producing mammal. It’s been a scramble with summer chores, summer sports, teaching a heifer to be an upright cow, and a growing list of to-dos. We’re hoping to fall into a rhythm here that allows for more posts soon.
An Homage to Good Boys![]() We gave our sweet boy, Pesto, our last goodbyes last week. He was with us for 8 years after rescuing him from a bad neighborhood in Detroit. The first 4 years were great; he was full of energy and love. It was shortly before our big move to Northern Michigan that he was diagnosed with diabetes and given 2 years to live— if we were lucky. He still had all the love, and while his energy waned over the years, he was loyal up to the last day, which was almost 3.5 years later. It’s never easy saying goodbye to our four-legged companions; they’re like family. But when we took him to the veterinarian hospital for sudden health complications, the vet said there really weren’t any other options for him that would afford him much longer. We are so grateful for the love he brought to our home and how sweet he was (even before his diabetes). Emily and I agreed that he truly was the best dog either of us had ever had. Not a mean bone in his body. Farewell, Pesto (Roni) Del Rone Buchanan. We love you!
God Bless, and… |
